OMBUDSMAN CONDEMNS PUBLICATION OF THE COMPTROLLER GENERAL PHOTOGRAPHY
The Ombudsman's office strongly rejected the publication carried on today by the newspaper Sixth Power, which shows a photograph of the city Russian Clodoslbaldo, Comptroller General of the Republic, when he was convalescing after painful stroke.
The said publication is a clear violation of the right of all people to respect his honor, reputation and privacy as well as a clear assault on the principle of respect human dignity, both enshrined as central to the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Similarly, the dissemination of that picture contradicts the rights granted to all persons under medical treatment for the Health Law, particularly those relating to respect for their dignity and privacy and to receive confidential treatment regarding medical information about you.
In that sense, from the National Human Rights Institution repudiate actions of this nature, which is used at the lowest sensationalism in order to increase the low productivity service or a means of social communication, contradicting the most basic principles of journalism, under the Act on the Practice of Journalism and the Journalist Code of Ethics of Venezuela.
Because of this, from the Ombudsman's Office are calling on the respective professional association to condemn these practices that have nothing to do with the legitimate exercise of the right to freedom of expression, but instead increasingly delegitimize over the performance of this important profession within our society.
In the same vein, we urge all media to perform their functions in strict compliance to the principles enshrined in our legal privilege and, above all, respect for human dignity and human rights.
